Why Remove A Stump?
There are several good reasons to consider removing a stump:
1) It improves the aesthetics of your property.
Many homeowners choose to remove leftover stumps, simply for improving the look of their property. There is just nothing beautiful about old stump sitting in the yard, looking like an unfinished project. Stump grinding or stump removal is a quick, and relatively inexpensive way to improve the feel of your property.
2) It increases the value of your property.
While money is not everything, there is certainly nothing wrong with it! The appearance of a property immediately affects its perceived value. Many of our customers choose to get rid of a stump to improve the “curb appeal” of their home or business, and raising its value in the process.
3) It prevents against disease.
Rotting wood of any kind encourages disease to grow. Things like Armillaria Root Disease, or Laminated Root Rot can take a hold, and quickly spread to other, healthy trees.
4) It prevents a tripping hazard.
When your kids or grandkids are playing in the yard, the last thing you want is for them to be tripping over a stump, or at best, trying to navigate their way around it. This is also a big inconvenience to avoid when trying to mow the lawn!
5) It prevents against unwanted pests.
Dead or rotting wood are an open invitation to pests like ants and termites. Stumps are often homes of these types of pests. In the case of termites, they are not content to stay in the stump, but will often travel to the other healthy trees, or your home. Stump removal is the great way to ensure that termites do not gain a foothold in your residence.

What Is The Difference Between Stump Grinding And Stump Removal?
You may be considering whether to do stump grinding or stump removal. Before making a decision, you may want to know some of the finer points of the differences between the two.
Stump Removal. Stump removal does exactly what it sounds like. It literally removes the whole stump. We do this by pulling the stump out of the ground with heavy operating equipment. Afterwards, the hazard is gone, and with it, the possibility of tripping over it, or pests making their home there. The advantage to this method is that the tree is gone for good, with all of its roots. The downside to this method is that it can be hard on your property. In order to get the stump out, we have to bring in heavy machinery and dig all around the roots in order to get it up.
Stump Grinding. Stump Grinding is another way to get rid of the stump. We bring in an industry grade stump grinder and literally grind the stump down, either level with the soil or below it (sometimes up to 18” below) depending on the circumstances. Not only does this get rid of the hazard, it also effectively neutralizes the chances of regrowth, and you have now recovered a large part of your property, to use however you choose. The upside to this method is that it is much less invasive. It also also less expensive.
It is for this reason, than many of our customer choose stump grinding over removal. However, it is completely up to you! Our goal is to serve you and to meet your needs the best we can. Let us know how we can help you by contacting us here!

Can I Do It Myself?
While it is technically possible to do it yourself, we do not recommend it. Stump Grinding can be dangerous, even if you have all the right tools. It is not necessarily the right equipment that ensures a safe outcome, but the knowledge and experience of how to use those tools properly. The operating equipment is very heavy, and intended to be used in certain ways. A deviation from the intended purpose, or a wrong application, can cause unnecessarily property damage or damage to people. When it comes to tree work, always hire a professional company, when at all possible.
